Triple Science

Science is the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. On this page we focus on the three major branches of Science

  • Biology
  • Chemistry

Biology is the study of living organisms. All organisms are made up of one or more cells. As long as something is alive we refer to it as an organism.

All cells come from pre-existing cells.

All cells have a cell membrane around the outside. Inside the cell membrane is a jelly-like substance called the cytoplasm, in which are found many small structures called organelles. The most important of which is the nucleus which holds the DNA material. The whole content of the cell is called protoplasm.

To study the very small organelles inside a cell we need a very powerful microscope called an electron microscope. They can magnify up to 500,000 times. An electron microscope does not shine light through a piece of animal or plant as in the case of light microscopes but rather a beam of electrons is used instead of light.
